“The tour guide Ximena and the driver Mario were both fantastic. The drive is beautiful and we found a lovely place to try local food and wines in Cafayate on our own. I wish there was a tour that made more stops and spent more time in the scenic places. This itinerary seems pretty typical but I think instead of trying to do a little bit of everything (scenic stops, wine tour, shopping) having more focused tours would be better, even though it’s still obviously a limited time and there’s only so much that’s possible on such a far day trip. “My plan in heading north to the Salta region was to see some of the spectacular scenery there and this was a great way to do it. I was picked up at my hotel and we were treated to a bilingual tour of the Quebrada de Cafayate, to a beautiful winery and wine-tasting on the outskirts of Cafayate, and then to lunch and time to wander in Cafayate itself. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the geology and even treated us to an impromptu song in the appropriately named Anfiteatro formation. “This was advertised as an English tour. There wasn't much English during the tour, and the one winery we visited offered no English during our time there. I didn't learn anything during the tour. The driver was racing to get around and had no concern for the passengers in the back. The guide blasted music during the return trip that woke people up from their naps. We unknowingly had two tours with the same company, and they switched the tours without telling us. This was a confusing and awful experience for us. I cannot recommend this tour or company.”
